I parlayed an MFA in writing poetry at the University of Oregon into a job writing ads at places like Scali, McCabe, Sloves, Ammirati & Puris, Hill Holiday, BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi. I’ve been freelancing for 23 years, teaching at the School of Visual Arts, raising a family, writing fiction, playing guitar and bicycling. It’s a nice life. All I need to complete it is more freelance or a challenging staff position. Or I could go back to bartending.
